Born into 3 generations of piano teachers, I started learning the piano at just 4 years old, winning a full music scholarship by the age of 7. I was fortunate to be trained in classical piano by teachers who made learning the piano not only inspiring, but fun!
I followed the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) graded system and later took up my mother’s bassoon. At 16 I had my grade 8 in both piano and bassoon and grade 6 in voice. I went on to join the Surrey Youth Orchestra and the National Children’s Orchestra.
It wasn’t until my son was born in 2018 though, after over a decade of a career in PR for the luxury fashion brand, CHANEL, that I returned to the piano and embarked upon a career change, gaining my dipABRSM in piano performance. I began my teaching career in South East London in 2019, teaching from home and at Ivydale Primary school in Nunhead, until my family moved to the Chew Valley in 2025.
I am very aware that as a child, I benefitted extensively from learning music and as an adult it has become an important tool for managing stress. It is widely recognised that music education in children can improve self-confidence by encouraging creativity, team work, language and communication skills. It also helps to improve academic achievements across the curriculum, through the development of literacy, numeracy and listening skills. My ambition for all of my students, of all ages, is to help them achieve a positive relationship with the piano, so that they can harness these life enhancing skills and have fun doing so.
